Online Academic Workshop in Frontier Fields of the Nervous System and Cardiac Vessels of China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University Successfully Concluded
On January 28, the graduation ceremony and summary meeting of the Online Academic Workshop in Frontier Fields of the Nervous System and Cardiac Vessels was successfully held in the 2nd conference room of Building 10 of our hospital. Leadership of the Oxford Prospects and Global Development Institute, Regents Park College, Oxford University, including Director Wang Shidong, Janina Duda, Director of Teaching and Learning, and Lu Yuchen, Officer of Foreign Affairs attended the ceremony via video. Also attending the ceremony were Gao Yufei, Vice President of our hospital, and heads of relevant departments. The ceremony was presided over by Janina Duda.
The Online Academic Workshop in Frontier Fields of the Nervous System and Cardiac Vessels of China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University was held from January 10 to 28, 2022 via an online video platform. The workshop included 15 lectures, 10 seminars and 5 academic workshops, covering frontier medical knowledge in a wide variety of fields such as functional neurosurgery, atrial fibrillation therapy, operating room operations, and humanistic concern in medicine. Professor Tipu Aziz, founder of Oxford Functional Neurosurgery and Associate Professor Svetlana Reilly of Oxford Cardiovascular Science were specially invited to have in-depth exchanges with assistant teachers of our hospital in fields such as deep brain stimulation and case analysis of mitral valve surgery, as an effort to further build an international research cooperation platform and establish more high-quality research partnerships. The workshop was attended by 25 doctoral and postgraduate students and 5 assistant teachers from our hospital.
Vice President Gao Yufei expressed his gratitude to Jilin University for its strong support and to the Oxford team for their thorough preparation. He said that since 2021, our hospital has been funded three times by the Global Competency Improvement Project for Jilin University Students, which benefited more than 100 disciplines and more than 100 teachers and students. The Online Academic Workshop in Frontier Fields of the Nervous System and Cardiac Vessels is the second collaboration in the field of medicine launched between our hospital and Oxford University Medical School, marking a new step in our substantive cooperation with the world’s first-class universities. The project has been highly praised by the teachers and students, which also strengthened our confidence in further promoting international cooperation in the field of medicine.
Gao pointed out that the implementation of international cooperation projects is of great significance to medical education and scientific research progress, and expressed his hope for all our colleagues to fully utilize the foundation of cooperation established with the world’s first-class universities to proactively expand cooperation channels and jointly contribute to the development of medical education, scientific research, and clinical practice.
Attending Physician Wang Guan of the Department of Neurosurgery of China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University, on behalf of assistant teachers, and student representative Wang Chong spoke respectively to share their experience of participating in this workshop and look forward to more of such projects in the future.
Janina Duda said that both universities have enjoyed a good educational experience. The excellent, active, and highly interactive classroom performance of students was widely praised by the professors. Svetlana Reilly, Associate Professor of Oxford Cardiovascular Science said that she was glad to share mitral valve surgery and other related cases with teachers and students, and hoped that the cooperation between the two sides would remain close.
Director Wang Shidong said that this academic workshop was not only an effective attempt of online special training for doctoral and master students, but also a good start for further cooperation between the two sides. Looking forward, he hoped to see more cooperation and exchanges with China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University.
