Build an International Stage
The Surgical Academic Workshop of China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University was held from October 18 to 28, 2021 via an online video conference platform. As an academic exchange platform, the project was supported by the second grant our hospital has received from the Global Competency Improvement Project for Jilin University Students, inviting well-known scholars and students of relevant majors at home and abroad to discuss hotspot academic issues.
Discuss Frontier Academic Topics
The online academic workshop focused on the clinical and basic research on allogeneic free composite tissue transplantation, where academic exchanges were conducted in fields such as neuronal migration and axon guidance, synapse formation and elimination, neuromuscular diseases, bioengineering materials, and peripheral nerve repair.
Gather Prestigious Professors
The workshop invited Professor Gerald Brandacher of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Professor Mei Lin of Case Western Reserve University, and Professor Guo Zhengxiao of the Faculty of Science of the University of Hong Kong. Over 30 experts and professors in relevant fields and approximately 100 students of relevant majors from Jilin University and from our hospital have participated in the workshop online.
Make Significant Contribution
The implementation of the series of international cooperation projects is of great significance to medical education and international research cooperation and progress. The project has been highly praised by all teachers and students of our hospital. I believe we will have even closer exchanges and cooperation and smoother communication with top international experts and scholars in the future, as we work together to contribute to the development of human medicine.
—Cui Shusen, Party Secretary of China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University
This workshop has enabled good exchange between the two sides, where teachers and students have been actively engaged in thinking and communication. It has also shown us the “extensive yet intensive” reservoir of knowledge and “truth-seeking and pragmatic” attitude towards learning demonstrated by JLU students.
—Guo Zhengxiao, Associate Dean for the Faculty of Science, the University of Hong Kong
The workshop was another effective effort for high-level cooperation and in-depth exchanges in medical research and international frontier fields. Adhering to the concept of openness and sharing, Jilin University will continue to support and encourage its colleges and departments to carry out multilateral international exchanges and cooperation. Experts and professors are welcome to share knowledge in frontier academic fields with colleagues of Jilin University. We hope that Jilin University and China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University will establish long-term cooperation with HKU Faculty of Science to jointly build an exchange platform so that we can cope with human health problems and emerging medical challenges together.
